Copyediting perfects your writing, and it’s a necessary step in the publication process. It’s not rewriting—it’s giving your copy the care and attention it deserves, so that you can proudly present it to the world. Frequently Asked Questions
What types of projects do you edit?
I specialize in food-focused content, including recipes, cookbooks, blog posts, articles, magazine features, educational materials, and promotional copy for restaurants and food brands. However, I’m also available to copyedit other nonfiction and fiction genres. Send me a message at the bottom of this page so we can chat about your unique project.
Do you only work with food writers, or can anyone hire you?
Anyone with a passion for writing is welcome!
What’s the difference between copyediting and proofreading?
Copyediting focuses on improving clarity, consistency, and style while correcting grammar and punctuation. Proofreading is the final polish—checking for typos and formatting issues before publication. I offer both, depending on your project stage.
Why don’t I just use AI to edit?
Simply put, there’s no substitute for professional editing. AI can be helpful for generating ideas, but it lacks the nuance, subject-matter knowledge, and human touch that food writing demands. Once your I bring culinary expertise and an editor’s trained eye to ensure your content is accurate, engaging, and authentically you.
I’m a great writer, so can’t I just edit my own writing?
Even the best writers need a second pair of eyes. It’s hard to find your own mistakes or notice where clarity might be lacking. My thoughtful editing style doesn’t just catch errors—it offers a fresh perspective and could even bring potential problems to your attention.
But I’m sensitive to criticism! Please don’t be mean!
I know your manuscript is like your baby, and you want to protect it at all costs. But years from now, do you want to look back on your published writing and realize it needed some corrections? I’m here to make you and your writing look as professional and polished as possible. I aim to be your ally, not your critic!
Will your edits change my writing voice?
Absolutely not! My job is to enhance your writing without compromising your voice.
Can you help with recipes that need to follow specific dietary guidelines?
Yes! With over a decade of experience as a personal chef, I am well-versed in special diets such as gluten-free, sugar-free, and low-carb. I can help ensure your recipes are practical and accessible to your readers.
How much does editing cost?
Rates vary depending on the type and scope of your project. Most fall between two and five cents per word, in line with industry standards from the Editorial Freelancers Association. Schedule a discovery call with me to determine a precise rate.
How long will it take to edit my project?
Turnaround times depend on the length and complexity of your content. We’ll set a timeline during your discovery call that ensures a high-quality final product and meets your deadlines.
